The sound of a solid wood door closing firmly in place contributes to your sense of home. Home designs with solid wood pieces keep us rooted to our natural surroundings. Solid wood joinery features the organic beauty and full grain structure of the wood used to fabricate the piece. We at Gepetto hope to create a world where quality wood pieces grace our homes. We envision a future where our forests are allowed to mature and produce quality hardwoods at reasonable prices. Gepetto lobbies on behalf of changing construction practices for greener results.

Solid Wood Door Restoration & Refinishing VASolid Wood Door Restoration & Refinishing VA
Wood entry door restoration and refinishing contractors usually start with stripping old paint or finishes. Rotten wood may be stabilized and patched with epoxy, or new wood elements patched in. Cracked and split wood panels may be replaced, hardware and art glass restored or replicated, fit of the doors adjusted, and new finishes applied.
Save thousands of dollars by refinishing your doors rather than buying new ones. Commercial Doors require a specialized knowledge to preserve the quality and provide a durable finish that will stand up to both weather and customer abuse. Many times this requires a small annual charge for ongoing maintenance by us once the doors are refinished. This way they always look beautiful and maintenance is always less expensive than a total refinish.
A wood-consolidant (also known as wood stabilizer) will be used to strengthen the wood fibers of the rotted areas and return some of the wood’s structural integrity. For large areas of damage, consider replacing the damaged wood with a new section of wood. For smaller areas of damage and doors to be repainted as in this project, remove any loose or dry-rotted pieces. Sand the door as needed. For a door to be finished as natural wood, completely remove every bit of paint and sand thoroughly. For a door to be repainted, sand rough spots until the door is smooth and ready for paint.
For areas of soft wood (nearly dry-rotted), use a rotted-wood stabilizer. Use a chisel or scraper to remove any badly rotted areas or old wood filler (Image 1).
Apply the stabilizer (Image 2) according to the manufacturer’s instructions and let it dry until the wood hardens.
Sand down the paint around the damaged area to bare wood. Remove any dust.
Using a polyester or epoxy resin filler, fill the damaged area to the surface and cover any voids (Image 3). This will harden to a tough surface ideal for attaching the hardware screws. Allow the filler to harden as per the manufacturer’s instructions.
Sand the finish surface smooth. First use a flat rasp, then rough-grade sandpaper and finally with finishing grade sandpaper.
Custom Woodworking for summer vacation home : Country Chic Style by Virginia Craftsmen Gepetto Millworks. Have Gepetto design and build your kitchen, dining and wood paneling to meet your budget and your design aesthetic! Here we used reclaimed barn wood for the kitchen/dining area walls to bring together the front hall and original wood floors that were refinished in renovation.
Renovate your historic property with the organic look and feel of #reclaimed lumber on the walls, floors or as purpose built furniture! In this property tour you can see how the #CountryChic elements blend together with the weathered and faded walls built by Gepetto from an old barn. The country farm house kitchen was built by the space conscious farmer of the 19th century. To bring it to modern standards, our #Kitchen#Designer brought the small space between the stove, sink and fridge out into the dining room by adding the cart style island allowing the chef to determine the cooking space, or entertaining space with the roll of the casters. Gepetto built the family length dining table to fit the space using solid wood joinery. We fashioned a clock from the same reclaimed panels and tied together the staircase, sitting room, and dining area using the reclaimed paneling. If you are looking to source a medium or large project, give us a call @ (804) 938-2094 and chat about your specific needs, and we’ll scour the rich #virginiacountryside for the right #reclaimedlumber for the job.
As you are renovating your historic home you will find the choice presented to you to tear down one set of window trim,
doorway molding or any part that can not be immediately sourced or replaced. Before you throw away the character
and history of your property one small piece at a time, please contact us to recreate your historic pieces with their full character.
Historic homes are often designed around an entry hall or great room. This greatroom wall hosts a lighted display of period china. All electrical wiring is hidden and the accent lighting on the china cabinet is dimmable so that a warm glow can be kept in the stairway.
